Does the wand work on American TVs?
Yes. The wand is a learning remote and you have to teach it the codes from your original remote control(s), in fact remote code learning and infra-red (IR) sending microchip is made by an American company that is one of the World’s largest remote control manufacturers.
Will the wand work with Comcast or Direct TV set top boxes?
The Kymera Wand was developed in the UK, but it learns the infra-red (IR) remote control codes from your existing push-button remote, so it is compatible with almost all makes of TV, DVR, Hi-Fi, etc.
Can you overwrite the codes once it’s learned them?
Yes. It's absolutely no problem to over-write any of the functions at any time with new infra-red (IR) codes from different remote controls.
Do I have to have a remote to program the wand from?
Yes. As the Kymera Wand is a learning remote, you will need another remote to learn from. If you have lost your original remote, there are very low cost universal remotes on the market that have all the codes already in them, which then only require a certain access code to be typed in, in order to get the remote to work. Unfortunately this version of the Kymera Wand does not have that facility, so it will need to learn the remote codes from another remote.
Is the Kymera Wand available in shops?
No. At present we are only selling the Kymera Wand online. In the future we may consider selling it through retail outlets.
Is it really magic?
Well, that depends on your point of view. Spin back only 20 years and the technology that makes the wand possible would have been considered impossible, go back 200 years and you would have been cast out as a witch or wizard for just using it. The Wand's "magic" is the result of some incredible developments in motion sensing and computer miniaturisation. At the heart of the wand is a tiny silicon device called an accelerometer, which can measure force in any direction. It is so sensitive that it can measure the force of gravity while the wand is at rest. The "brain" of the wand is programmed to recognise certain patterns of force as deliberate movements or gestures and use them as cues to send specific pulses of invisible infra-red (IR) light that is used to remotely control most domestic audiovisual equipment... truly magical.
How does the wand learn the codes from other remotes?
That part is easy, you point the wand straight up and tap it twice and just like magic, the wand pulses four times to tell you that it is in learning mode. You carefully return the wand to the horizontal position and do the gesture onto which you want to learn a remote control code, the wand pulses a set number of times that corresponds to that gesture and then starts rapid pulsing. That tells you that it is ready to receive the remote control code. All you have to do then, is point your existing remote control at the tip of the wand an briefly press the button of the function you want the wand to learn. You then wait a second, if the wand has successfully learned the code, it confirms that it has done so with a big pulse. You then point the wand pointing vertically downwards and tap it once to lock the code in place. Then you're all done. The whole operation takes about 30 seconds and is easy to master.
Will I be able to master the wand's gestures?
Yes. Most people are able to master all the wand's gestures in about five to ten minutes, so it won't be long before you are amazing your friends with your wizarding ways.
